Right now, in late winter, Old Erowal Bay is at its most peaceful.
Whales are still tracking the coast offshore, the days are crisp and clear, and the western bay is a beautiful spot to watch the light change over the water in the afternoon. Come spring, the bush wakes up and the water warms, and the paddling season really begins. Either way, you will have most of it to yourself.
Easy days out from your base
Old Erowal Bay makes a relaxed home base for exploring the whole bay.
Spend a morning on the calm water, drive to Hyams Beach for that famous white sand, walk a stretch of Booderee in the afternoon, then come back to a quiet street and a proper dinner in. Because you are set slightly apart from the main tourist run, the coming and going never feels like a chore.
