A Jervis Bay Easter long weekend is one of the easiest escapes you can plan from Sydney or Canberra. You get four days, mild autumn weather, white-sand beaches without the peak-summer crowds, and enough to keep kids and adults happy from Good Friday right through to Easter Monday.
Easter 2026 falls on 3–6 April, smack in the middle of the school holidays. That makes it perfect for families and groups, and it also means the good homes go fast. More on that below. First, here’s how to actually spend the weekend.
Why autumn is the sweet spot
By April, the summer heat has eased but the water is still warm enough for a swim. The light turns golden, the bush smells fresh, and the beaches feel like they’re yours again.
It’s the kind of weather made for long walks, slow mornings, and afternoons that drift into evening. You won’t be fighting for a patch of sand or a table at the pub the way you would in January.
Good Friday: settle in and hit the sand
Drive down Friday morning, drop your bags, and head straight for the water. Hyams Beach is the obvious first stop, famous for some of the whitest sand you’ll ever stand on. Get there earlyish and you’ll have room to spread out.
If you’re staying in Huskisson, you’re walking distance to cafes, the bakery and the foreshore. Grab a coffee, let the kids burn off the drive, and ease into the weekend. Many spots close or run shorter hours on Good Friday, so plan a relaxed, low-key day rather than a packed itinerary.
Saturday: explore Booderee National Park
Set Saturday aside for Booderee National Park. It’s a short drive from Huskisson and easily fills a day.
A few favourites:
- Murrays Beach, calm, clear and great for a family swim
- Honeymoon Bay, small, sheltered and ideal for little ones
- Green Patch, good for picnics and spotting kangaroos in the morning
- Cape St George Lighthouse ruins, a bit of history with big ocean views
Pack lunch, water and sunscreen, since facilities inside the park are limited. There’s a vehicle entry fee, so have that sorted before you arrive.
Easter Sunday: a walk, a paddle and a chocolate hunt
Start with an egg hunt at the house, then work it off outdoors. The White Sands Walk between Greenfield Beach and Chinamans Beach is a beautiful, mostly easy coastal track with swimming spots along the way. Keep an eye out for the Hole in the Wall, a natural rock formation that’s worth the short detour.
If your group is up for it, a dolphin-watching cruise out of Huskisson is a Jervis Bay classic. The bay is home to resident dolphins year-round, and the kids will talk about it for weeks.
Round out the day at Vincentia or back at Husky for an early dinner. Booking ahead for Easter Sunday is smart, as the popular spots fill quickly over the long weekend.
Easter Monday: one last slow morning
Don’t rush the drive home. Use Monday for the things you didn’t get to: a final swim, a wander through a local market if one’s on, or just coffee on the deck before you pack up.
A short stroll, a last look at the water, and you’ll already be planning the next trip.
Where to stay (and why to book now)
Easter is one of the busiest weekends of the year here, and the larger homes are the first to go. If you’re travelling as a family or a group, you’ll want space to spread out, a kitchen for big breakfasts, and somewhere everyone can relax after a day on the sand.
For bigger groups, Daffodil on Owen sleeps eight across four bedrooms right in the Huskisson CBD, so you’re steps from the cafes and foreshore. Prefer a waterside base with a bit more quiet? Erowal Bay Cottage sleeps six and sits close to the calm of Erowal Bay. Smaller crews are well covered too, with Heart of Husky in central Huskisson and Killarney at Old Erowal Bay for another roomy group option.
Book your Easter escape
Four days, white-sand beaches and that easy autumn pace, this is what a long weekend should feel like. But Easter dates and the best homes book out early, so don’t leave it to the last minute.
