Best Restaurants and Cafes in Huskisson: Where to Eat Near Jervis Bay

One of the underrated pleasures of a winter trip to Huskisson is how good the food scene feels when the summer crowds have thinned out. In July you can actually get a table at the places you want, linger over a long lunch without feeling rushed, and settle into a proper dinner without booking three weeks in advance. The town slows down in the cooler months, and the cafes and restaurants are all the better for it.

Owen Street, the main drag, covers everything from strong morning coffee and a cosy brunch to waterfront views and proper dinners. Here’s our guide to the best of them.

Breakfast and brunch

5 Little Pigs

5 Little Pigs is the spot most locals will point you towards for breakfast. A small, relaxed cafe on Owen Street serving Swell Coffee alongside a menu built around simple things done well, from big breakfasts on sourdough through to zucchini fritters and pepper squid at lunch. In winter there’s something especially satisfying about sitting inside with a flat white while the crisp morning air keeps everyone else in bed a little longer. Open seven days from 7am.

Salty Joe’s

Salty Joe’s brings a relaxed Southern Californian beach cafe vibe to Huskisson year-round. The menu leans fresh and wholesome with egg rolls, acai bowls, smoothies and strong coffee, and the views straight over the bay from the front tables are hard to beat. Open seven days from 6am.

Kraken Sourdough

If you’re willing to venture off the main street, Kraken Sourdough is worth seeking out. Tucked away in the Huskisson industrial estate on Duranbah Drive, it’s a genuine artisan bakery run by baker and marine biologist Leander Wiseman, who proved the sceptics wrong by doing what many said was impossible: fully sourdough pastries with zero commercial yeast. The wild culture sourdough croissants laminated with Pepe Saya butter are extraordinary, and the savoury options like the kimchi croissant and caramelised onion and brie danish are unlike anything else in the region. The kind of place Sydney food lovers lose their minds over. Open Thursday to Sunday from 7am.

Fishermens Wharf Huskisson

Right on the waterfront at the Huskisson Wharf, Fishermens Wharf Huskisson is the obvious pick if you want a view with your breakfast. It’s the only waterfront bar and grill right on the water in Huskisson, and in July the morning light over the bay makes it a genuinely beautiful spot to start the day. Open for breakfast and lunch daily. If you’re heading out on a morning cruise with Jervis Bay Wild, it’s right at the cruise terminal so perfect for fuelling up beforehand.

Lunch and dinner

Peter Eva Pizza

Run by husband and wife Peter and Eva, who previously owned a bakery and pizzeria in Tuscany, Peter Eva on Owen Street is one of the best spots in Huskisson for a proper sit-down meal. Handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and proper antipasti at a standard well above what you’d expect from a small coastal town. Open Monday to Thursday from 5pm and Friday to Saturday from 11.30am for lunch and 5pm for dinner. Closed Sundays.

Wildginger

Consistently one of the most popular dinner spots in town, Wildginger serves vibrant Southeast Asian food that is particularly well suited to a cold winter evening. The menu works best ordered banquet style so the table gets to share a bit of everything, and the pumpkin jungle curry is exactly what you want when the temperature drops. Happy hour runs from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Open Tuesday to Sunday for dinner. Bookings are strongly recommended even in July.

Sandbar Huskisson

Sandbar sits just off Owen Street on Hawke Street, opposite White Sands Park and Sharknet Beach. The menu covers fresh seafood, shared plates, pork ribs and a solid cocktail list, with a lovely alfresco area overlooking the park and the bay beyond. Worth checking their socials for current opening hours before you head over.

Stonegrill Huskisson

Currently the number one rated restaurant in Huskisson on Tripadvisor, Stonegrill has been on Owen Street for over 15 years. The concept is simple: you cook your own premium steaks, fresh seafood and lamb cuts tableside on a superheated volcanic stone. It’s a fun and interactive dinner experience that works especially well on a winter evening, and it’s BYO which keeps the bill very reasonable. Bookings are essential on weekends.

Huskisson Hotel

For a more casual dinner or a long afternoon of drinks, the Huskisson Hotel on the waterfront is a Huskisson institution. The bistro menu covers pub favourites and locally sourced seafood, and even on a grey July evening the deck views over the bay are worth it. Live music runs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

TIP

Peter Eva, Wildginger and Stonegrill all operate reduced hours in winter and are dinner only on most nights. Kraken Sourdough is Thursday to Sunday only. Always check ahead before making plans, particularly if you have your heart set on a specific spot.
